About our Guest Investor: Katherine O'Neill is Executive Director Jumpstart NJ Angel Network, a member-led angel group of successful serial entrepreneurs, business executives and venture capitalists which actively invests in early-stage technology ventures in the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond, with more than half of the investment New Jersey. Since Jumpstart first started investing in 2004, member investments have totaled over $35 million in 45 companies. Jumpstart angels invest primarily in early-stage companies in all areas of technology from software as a service technology, apps to behavioral health modification to CleanTech. Members have deep knowledge and experience in many areas and invest not only their dollars, but their expertise in helping young companies grow. Jumpstart has developed a strong relationships with the venture capital community. These relationships, along with ties to the EDA and the NJTC, allow Jumpstart to take full advantage of local resources to help early-stage companies. Unlike other capital fund groups, Jumpstart does not go into pool investment: members personally provide their money in a company that suits their investment criteria. This way, it fosters an efficient working relationship between the investor and the entrepreneur, which is essential in successful businesses. Seed investments can range from $200,000 up to $1M for start-ups that passed the rigorous selection process and presentation.
